FLYING WITH RYANAIR
Ryanair's main German airport is at Frankfurt-Hahn which is only a 25 minute drive from Bernkastel.

Like most low cost airlines the initial low price gains some extras before you actually pay for your flights.  Here are some ways you can minimise these extra costs:-

Luggage - Ryanair charge a substaintial amount per item of 'hold' luggage
checked in - the flight I looked at it for it was GBP30.00 for 1 suitcase, so if
you can share a suitcase or preferably manage with just hand luggage it is a
lot cheaper. NB: They have also now removed individual check-in desks for
flights and so there are massive queues to 'drop' hold luggage at the very
limited check-ins provided - allow a LOT of time for this, if you are checking
in luggage otherwise you risk missing your flight.

Hand luggage - Ryanair do not charge for this and allow a generous 10kg
limit per person and a hand luggage size limit of  55cm x 40cm x 20cm, which
may be adequate for a long weekend break. And remember you can buy
toiletries locally for a lot less than GBP30.

Priority Boarding - If you do NOT have hold luggage to book in you can
have priority boarding which means you're first to board the plane - great for
families. This costs GBP4 each though and is the default option so if you
don't want it you need to look for the
remove link.

Insurance - This is automatically included so if you don't want it you need to
remove it, but of course it is sensible to have some. I provide a separate link
on my Travel Tips page to a site where you can obtain an alternative quote
which I think will normally be cheaper.

Ryanair have a range of fees depending on how you pay, which can be
VERY expensive as they charge them per person per each way flight BUT

if you can pay by Prepaid Mastercard it's FREE!
A family of 4 will therefore save £40 on return flights!

It can be very cheap to fly with Ryanair if you follow these tips and of
course are lucky with their frequent special offers. I have been able to
book some for just 2p return with no taxes or extras!!!
